InterQual® Behavioral Health Criteria

Decision support assisting clinicians with comprehensive, evidence-based clinical criteria.

InterQual Behavioral Health Criteria are specifically developed to help payers and providers optimize behavioral health care decisions. Much of the criteria are organized in our continuum format, which presents all settings of care in one view and incorporates the episode-day/ episode-week feature to provide timeline guidance for each patient and condition. Medicare policy notes and a direct link to the Medicare Benefit Policy Manual provide additional information within the medical review workflow to support policy alignment.

Manage

Manage the delivery of mental health and substance use care, including initial- and continued-stay level-of-care decisions.

Support

The depth of criteria supports care managers in the consideration of behaviors, symptoms, level of function, social risks and support systems.

Evaluate

The criteria provide care management information notes for expected progress, care facilitation and readmission considerations and include length-of-stay benchmarks and transition planning tools.
